Andre Fidusi's Minimalist World Cup Posters

posted by on 06/05/2012

Eeek, is it shameful that I didn’t know FA Cup final was yesterday till I saw tweets on my timeline regarding a Chelsea vs Liverpool game? It took me a few moments to understand why folks cared so much about a match between the pair. Brazilian artist Andre Fidusi is the brains behind this minimalist series chronicling the evolution of the World Cup. It’s funny how he’s managed to subtly identify the essence of each World Cup and portray them using tiny illustrations. I’m sure all of you know what the 1966 poster is going to be – cross bar! Have fun trying to decipher each of the abstract designs.

Anyone else download goals from every World Cup in their younger years? I was that crazy about the beautiful game, fell in love with the Brazilian football style so ended up researching back to as far as I could find in my local library’s VHS collection. Major loser movements.

That Maradona poster though, grr. Sigh I won’t be supporting England anymore till Terry is out of the team, I just can’t.
