Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Film Flashback #5 | The Matrix

posted by on 31/03/2012

13 years to the day, on March 31 1999 The Matrix was released in cinemas

Nowadays, it is a rare thing for a sci-fi film to be justifiably termed groundbreaking. But it’s an apt word to describe The Matrix, an action thriller directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski.  The sequels, entitled The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, amped up the action and ultimately bookended the story satisfactorily. However, this wonderful mash-up of style and substance, combined with the surprise factor of something never before seen, is not easily eclipsed. The Matrix is one of those films that could happily have remained a standalone piece as opposed to part of a trilogy. Take the red pill to discover why it is worthy of our film flashback treatment. Or just keep reading.

World Photo London

posted by on 31/03/2012

It’s that time of the year where my productivity at work decreases by 27%…It must mean the announcement of Sony’s World Photography Awards. Photography is a passion and hobby for many however the majority like myself have never considered the thought of pursuing a career in the field. The World Photography Organisation (WPO) supports professional (and more importantly), amateur and student photography by lending a global platform to showcase their work in photojournalism, fine art and commercial photography. On Tuesday 20th March the Open & Youth category winners, Moving Image/3D Award Shortlist and the Tate Collectives competition winners were announced. Check out my favourites after the break.

The Camo Project

posted by on 30/03/2012

Founded by New York artist, Victor “VICKIPAGES” Roman, ‘The Camo Project’ is a hand crafted illustrative book depicting Victor’s interest in “the art of survival through the method of crypsis known as Camouflage“. Victor features his drawings of animals, many of whom naturally blend into their own habitats, and places them infront of a variety of camouflage vector graphics. His artwork interestingly brings wildlife to the forefront of pop-culture in 2011/12, as Camouflage is making its umpteenth resurgence into the mainstream fashion lines and labels. But at the same time, “The Camo Project” takes frivolous pop-culture, and our uncanny obsession with Army gear, back to it’s original source of inspiration, wildlife. Whichever way you look at it, The Camo Project is an interesting, relevant project which is now stocked by both Reed Space and Dessert Island Books. Vickipages is making his name on the art and culture scene in NY, and if you hit the jump you’ll see why!

Film Review | Wrath of the Titans 3D

posted by on 30/03/2012

Although it grossed $493 million worldwide, 2010’s Clash of the Titans is a film best left forgotten, a lamentable plot and poor 3D combining with equally poor acting in a disappointing effort. Nonetheless as is so often the case, money talks, and the franchise has yielded an unearned sequel. Changes needed to be made and they have been, not least in the form of new director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles). With some impressive looking trailers promising a look at some Titans this time round, has the sequel improved on its predecessor?

Album Review | Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded

posted by on 30/03/2012

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve done an album review, I believe the last time was actually a review of Nicki Minaj‘s debut album Pink Friday. We have decided to get more involved with album reviews and do them on a more regular basis. It just so happens that we pick up where we left off, with Nicki Minaj. Her new album Pink Fiday: Roman Reloaded is set to be released in a few days, April 2nd for UK/European fans and April 3rd for her US/Canadian Barbz. Before you go out a grab a copy, have a read and see what my thoughts are on the set. Full review on the flipside.

YiNYC – Randomness

posted by on 29/03/2012

Sorry for the lack of update yesterday, I wasn’t too bothered to get my camera out and photograph everything. Strange – wanted to just enjoy the company I was with and the city that I’m in. That only lasted a day so have a gander at the imagery from around Brooklyn and Clyde Frazier‘s new restaurant/bar/sports lounge/basket after the cut. Lot’s of randomness from all over the city in fact.

Summer is fast approaching and if the weather here in London is to be believed (not for one second as it is sure to switch up in a hot minute) then it actually is here. With the weather change comes the need for a wardrobe revamp, new shades, new shirts, new Tees all have to be bought along with the staple piece of any summer wardrobe, the denim jacket. Topman have made a conscious effort to make the denim jacket a ‘must have’ item by teaming up with some of the most talented designers from both sides of the Atlantic to refresh and update the classic denim jacket. Designers include Oliver SpencerLou DaltonKatie EaryShaun Samson and the in-house Topman Design team. I'm Back

posted by on 29/03/2012

I didn’t announce my departure to non UK shores like Yin did with his obvious attempt at making people jealous that he is in NYC *throws daggers at Yin*, however I did venture abroad. In fact I actually left the same day as Yin but unlike him I only took a short 40 minute plane ride to the surprisingly sunny Amsterdam. I’ll try to fix a post documenting my time there however I’m not sure how i’m going to do it yet so I’ll hold fire for now. I just want to let all you Yin&Yang’ers that my presence will once again be gracing the pages of the site so you can start rolling out the red carpet and begin the round of applause as you cheer for my very understated return lol. Love y’all, signed DJB

*I’ll leave y’all with a song that I think sums this post up*

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 29/03/2012

Since R.Kelly announced the return of his self titled ‘Hip-Hopera‘ series ‘Trapped In The Closet‘, I started to listen to his music again. He’s  composed some GOOD R&B tunes and he’s even done some club bangers- so i’ve chosen one of his songs for this week’s Throwback track!  It’s got a feel good vibe, a two-steppable beat and I anyone would love to throw a party like the one in the video… can you guess?
