The Firm – Photographs by Jocelyn Bain Hogg

posted by on 04/01/2012

Never before have I come across such photography that has scared me. It’s so real, raw and the black & white tones, just add to that frightening effect. It’s not horror by any means – no blood, guts or skulls, it’s just the characters that fill these photographs. The Firm who were predominantly made up of skinhead gangsters. My uncle told me many stories from his childhood, from being that Indian kid in school that was over 80% white and constantly being racially abused by a few skinhead yobs for his race and skin colour. Names such as ‘p*ki‘ were thrown about, dare I say times have changed. Improved. Racism still alive, just look at the case that was cleared yesterday. 18 YEARS. Let’s not get into that, this post is about the photography. Award-winning photographer Jocelyn has brilliantly captured the darkness, the happiness and everything about the English mafia’s life. More on the reverse.

I don’t understand how he’s managed to capture some of them, like the one of the guy pointing a gun at his wife with their daughter on the sofa in what looks like a living room. Very brave. I’ll give him that, rest of the photographs below. English Mafia in its heyday.
