Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Introducing Derek

posted by on 06/01/2012

Introductions have never been as straight forward as people make out, the science behind human interactions *sigh*.  Over the years I have become an expert at predicting and sidestepping awkward encounters, the art lies in knowing when to offer a friendly yet possibly awkward embrace, a firm handshake & confident eye contact or simply a cheeky grin and a wink (The latter proving unsuccessful from personal experience).

Dope Quote #33

posted by on 06/01/2012

I’ve lost count of how many times that I’ve tweeted this quote, don’t even think I read it anywhere – it was something I keep trying to tell myself. There isn’t any point constantly talking about what you’re going to do and deliver, just go and get it done. With it being the start of the year, I thought this was apt for many. Too many pretenders or like we’d like to call them in London: ‘gassers’ who love to talk but don’t actually deliver any results. Talk less, do more. If the results are exceptional, it’ll talk for itself. Good work will always earns praise. If you want to see the bigger version of the photograph above – click here.

HTC Sensation XL With Beats Audio

posted by on 05/01/2012

2011 was a good year for HTC, the manufacturer managed to crank out some great handsets last year that have brought them closer to the forefront of the market than ever before. I’ve briefly tested out he HTC Sensation XL which recently became available on Three; between the ‘All you can eat data’ sim card and the pair of Beat Audio headphones that come pre-packed with the handset, I was happy. More after the break.

Cadbury Giant London 2012 Party Popper

posted by on 05/01/2012

7 months away from London 2012 – let’s the campaigns start rolling in week by week. First up Cadbury, I know there’s been a big BRAND campaign launch that I’ll talk about in an essay like post soon but till then, let’s focus on the chocolate makers with their all new campaign ‘<a href="http://www.spotsvstripes.com/win" rel="nofollow"Spots V’s Stripes’ in which they will be giving away London 2012 tickets on a weekly basis. To start of this campaign, they held a live event at London’s new Westfield Eastfield in Stratford showering sale shoppers with special tokens which people could claim later for chocolate mascots and the olympic tickets themselves. The tickets were given to the shoppers through a giant Party Popper – a great start to a potentially huge campaign for them. More on the reverse.

I Am Nobody's N*gger By Dean Atta

posted by on 05/01/2012

Before I get condemned for using the term in the title, it’s the title of the poem and even though I’ve starred out of some of the characters – it’s needed for you to understand the true meaning of this poem by renowned spoken word artist Dean Atta. He wrote this poem in 30 minutes, purely written out of passion after yesterday’s court hearing for the Stephen Lawrence. I’m not black and nor will I ever be able to fully understand the effect this word has but anyone with an ounce of intelligence would know how disgusting this term is. Murderers, plantation owners, racists, xenophobes and more used/still use this term, why use it? Why glorify it in your rap songs? Just no. I wish rappers would make clean versions of their albums without this term. More on the reverse.

Film Watch – January

posted by on 05/01/2012

With the Oscars approaching, January sees many films which are in contention for awards being released and it’s always great to see actors and actresses, directors, producers and many others at the top of their game. Additionally, there is an ample quotient of films which, although they may not be what the academy historically looks for, will be exciting to watch nonetheless. Consequently, there is plenty to look forward to this month. Check out which films have been shortlisted after the jump.

Showcasing: Raf Riley

posted by on 05/01/2012

Odd Child is most definitely the place to be. They have seem to have some of the most exciting new British musical talent in Labrinth, Etta Bond and the young man I’m about to talk about Raf Riley. Riley is a 21 year old producer from North London who is signed to Labrinth’s Odd Child Recordings and is quietly building a name for himself. His quirky, bold and unique blend of sounds contribute to the making of a bright new talent and have people such as myself excited to see and hear what he has in-store for the future. I met Raf late last year and told him “You’re a sick producer, I wanna do a feature on you for Yin&Yang”  and he replied with a simple “Thank You”. I have yet to discuss doing the feature with him but I will do soon people so hold tight and you may just see Raf grace the pages of Y&Y in video form. Anywho back to the script, I first heard Riley’s production on the talented Etta Bond tracks ‘Ask Me To Stay’ and ‘Come Over’ but have since come across more music. I have selected a few tunes that are a must hear.

Christian Louboutin To Launch European Online Store

posted by on 05/01/2012

I have long admired the designs of popular luxury brand Christian Louboutin but unfortunately don’t have the financial status to do satisfy my cravings for their products. Thankfully I don’t live near to their store here in London and when I take a trip to west I ususally avoid going in the store just incase I make a stupidly brilliant impulsive purchase. However my avoidance is soon to become much harder due to the fact that they  are soon to open their virtual doors to European customers with the launch of a new European online store early this year. In addition to this Louboutin will also offer some exclusive styles not available elsewhere on the site which is very likely to tempt me. Please let me say away from their site lord lol.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 05/01/2012

I had to snatch this one out of the hands on Yin a good 24 hours before release as he’s slowly becoming the Throwback King. I had to put an end to his reign because whilst he trying hard, he can never topple me for that status lol. Anywho enough with the in house banter, let’s get down to business with todays trip down memory lane. 90′s R&B is always a good place to start when thinking of a song to select on a Thursday and it just so happens that while I was trying to think of 90′s R&B tracks this song came on via my iTunes. This song was released in 1999 and reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and I would say that it’s one of two really notable songs from the girl group 702. Find out which song it is after the cut.
