Yin Eats: Club Sandwich – Little Portland Café

posted by on 16/01/2012

You see how the last Yin Eats post was rather healthy? I’ve gone and ate the complete opposite, a carbs filled club sandwich from Little Portland Café. A nearby eatery which isn’t your most swanky, it’s your average bog standard cafe but located in Central London. I’ve always walked by it whilst enroute to Prét, EAT and McDonalds (once, the shame!) but never wandered in till last Thursday. I was baffled by the menu, there is so much on offer – luckily for me, my friend @yomistercee of UglyKidsClub walked in and I asked him for a recommendation. More on the reverse.

Samsung Unveil Smart Window At CES

posted by on 16/01/2012

Minority report! This is incredible innovation, definitely a step in the right direction. CES, for those that do not know is the annual technology expo where most tech companies unveil their latest gizmos and gadgets. Samsung unveiled this mind-blowing Smart Window – it’s a 22 inch LCD flat screen that has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 resolution and a contrast ratio of 500:1. Impressive ey? the window gives you the opportunity to connect to your social networks, browse the news, check the weather and more as you gaze out of the window. Some how Samsung has managed to make the traditional LCD screen 20% more transparent and the most impressive feature? The blinds control – you can add digital blinds with a flick of a finger which eliminates the need of backlight during the day. So it only uses 10% of the electricity that a standard LCD display – I WANT. It should be going into mass-production later this year. Watch the video on the reverse.

UK Unsigned: Introducing A.L.

posted by on 16/01/2012

If there’s one thing I love, it’s hearing new up and coming artists. I introduce to you A.L., a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from East London who’s just put out a 16 track EP. Titled ‘A.L. Vs. J Dilla: The LB EP (The Laid Back EP)’. The young singer is not going round for round on verses with the late legendary producer, what she is doing though is singing and rapping over 16 produced beats by Mr Dilla. A brave move you might say, but one, which triumphs here.

Nike x Undercover | Gyakusou FA/HO Running Collection

posted by on 15/01/2012

After reading the very insightful and inspiring Jeff Staple collaboration post yesterday, I developed a deeper perspective on how we should all be open to collaboration and sharing our ideas/talents to create greatness. It also gave me a greater respect for brands who collaborate with others to create great products. Nike have always led the way in the sports world and have always been at the helm of creating products that have benefited from unique collaborations. So I decided to feature Gyakusou fall/winter high-performance running collection which is a collaboration between Nike and Japanese Undercover founder Jun Takahashi. Check out the collection after the jump

Sunday Viewing: PressPausePlay Documentary

posted by on 15/01/2012

Just like how I said Jeff Staple’s article on collaboration was a must read, this documentary by creative agency Radon is a MUST WATCH. It’s an insightful video that captures the essence of the current digital revolution and how creativity has been unleashed because of it. The documentary starts off with a powerful quote from Moby surprisingly, I had to replay it 3 times so I could note it down for next week’s dope quote. This documentary suggests that with all the technology on offer right now that creating ‘art’ is as easier than ever, maybe a little too easy as we’re able to create albums, films and more just from our bedroom. Does that ability have a damaging effect on our creative output? Watch the documentary and see the likes of Christopher Weingarten, Amy Phillips (Pitchfork), Seth Godin and more discuss both sides of the argument.

Video Jukebox – Week One

posted by on 14/01/2012

Welcome to the first episode of Video Jukebox, a weekly post where I’ll feature my favourite music videos of the week I’ve stolen the name from one of MTV’s first ever feature shows and thank goodness I’m not famous enough (yet) to be sued for such blatant trademark infringement. Video Jukebox aired at a time when MTV was just about showcasing the latest videos from the top talent, providing a platform for both the musician and the team behind the video to shine – that’s before they started providing a place for Teen ‘Moms’, Trailer Trash, Airheads and Pornstars to shine. So in an ode to what MTV used to be about and what Yin&Yang is always about (showcasing dopeness basically) here we go, the first ever ‘episode’ with visuals from Mark Ronson, Tyga, tabi Bonney/Terri Walker, GLC/Rotimi, 14th, Iggy Azalea, Clement Marfo/Kano, Phonte and Chiddy Bang. Hit the jump for the goodies!

Film Review | The Iron Lady

posted by on 14/01/2012

Margaret Thatcher – beloved Prime Minister, or controversial leader? It’s a question that The Iron Lady wisely leaves to the audience to answer themselves. Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd once again teams up with Meryl Streep for the biopic on Britain’s first female Prime Minister. It’s never easy making a film about an icon that is still alive, and Thatcher’s friends and family have already expressed their concerns about how the former Prime Minister has been depicted. Is The Iron Lady an honest portrayal on one of the most interesting women of the 20th century? Find out after the jump.
