Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Oliver Spencer Spring/Summer 2012

posted by on 09/12/2011

Oliver Spencer have unveiled their offerings for the spring/summer season of 2012; the minimalistic collection features a good variation of prints as well as contemporary tailoring. Welcomed patterns included nautical and polka-dot pieces which work really well with a linen blazer- perfect for the warm weather. I also like how Oliver Spencer have incorporated a very subtle element of military influence in the collection, you can see it mostly in the outerwear. They’ve also kept the shoot very simple but still artistic with the blurry effect. I’m intrigued to what else will be on offer for the summer season next year. Check out selected imagery after the break.

Twitter Set To Change

posted by on 09/12/2011

Twitter is set to have an another overhaul of their design with this being the biggest overhaul since it was first released. It wasn’t long ago that they refreshed their look and I remember many many people on my timeline hated the new design. However having seen the video explaining the new design layout I can’t see many people complaining. It looks pretty cool, but I guess i’ll have to reserve judgement until I actually see it. The new design is to include three new functions @Connect #Discover and Home. The @Connect button will show who has mentioned you and suggest accounts that you may want to follow, the #Discover button shows what’s trending and points you to notable stories and videos and the Home button is pretty self explanatory. Peep the video to gain a better understanding of what is going to change.

Timescapes 4K | Tom Lowe

posted by on 08/12/2011

As photographer of the year 2010, Tom Lowe readies his debut film ‘Timescapes‘, he’s dropped some amazing production footage on his vimeo page which Jazz kindly forwarded on. The remarkable footage features breathtaking views of modern Southwest America and he’s even thrown in some shots of the locals! one thing that’s nice about watching this time-lapse is that there is a sense of coherence in the story telling that I’ve comes to realise is missing in other pieces. I also appreciated the music Tom used, it built up suspense even though you know nothing exciting is supposed to happen. Watch ‘Timescapes 4k‘ after the break.

Iman Omari – Energy

posted by on 08/12/2011

‘Energy’ is the debut album from 21 year old, Iman OmariIman cites Jazz, Electro and Hip Hop with a funky stance as the inspirations for his music. My homie ItsNate put me on to the L.A. native this week, and as soon as I heard the track, “Midnight” – a powerful fusion of synths, R&B-influenced vocals and beautiful words – I was hooked! I hate to say it, but something about Iman reminds me of a less poppy, more soulful Ryan Leslie – although Ryan has lost his way over the past couple of years, think genuine musicianship, synth-heavy, soulful tracks…laced with *real* instruments from a (handsome) young man that spends 22 hours of the day in the studio! Hit the jump to watch Iman Omari in the studio and for the free download of his project, ‘Energy’.

Throwback Thursday

posted by on 08/12/2011

It’s that time again when we deliver some classic musical magic. Today is the day to remember a UK garage CLASSIC track. UKG used to rule the club scene and this songs was heavily in the mix, even to this days when it is played along with some other signature UKG tracks I go off in the club. Sorry I dance like there’s no one around, when i’ve got a lil juice in my system and a good tune playing then thats me for the night. Now I have deliberately not stated what track awaits you on the flipside to build the suspense lol but build no more. The track that I have selected for your enjoyment is Love Bug by Ramsey & Fen featuring Lynsey Moore.

Hero – 3.2 Million Dots

posted by on 07/12/2011

This is absolutely incredible. Miguel Endara composes a drawing of his father using an ink pen and an old technique that just uses DOTS. This fascinating video shows us the making of that portrait shows us the whole process, it’s beautiful to watch especially when since it’s nicely edited. No fancy special effects or Adobe suite involved for the creation of this piece, this is ART at it’s very best. I’ll let the ink do the talking on the reverse.

Sigurd Grunberger – Euroman Magazine

posted by on 07/12/2011

The other day I stumbled upon Sigurd Grunbeger‘s portfolio website accidentally, but ended browsing through it for a good half hour and enjoyable visuals. Copenhagen based photographer put together a series of images for a Danish actor called Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – it features the actor in a rugged countryside environment with his son but unlike the plethora of contrived ‘i am walking in the green‘ lookbooks, this one seems authentic. No fancy post processing, colours or anything, the simplicity of these shots work so well. I love the styling in this series of images too, perfect for the winter with layering consisting of knitwear, peacoats, coats and boots. Sigurd manages to tell a mini-story of the actor’s day out with his son, check it out on the reverse.

Yin Eats | Xmas Tree Sushi Takeaway Box

posted by on 07/12/2011

Introducing a new series of food posts titled Yin Eats here on Y&Y. The main concept behind Yin eats is to give you an insight into all the new places I discover in and around Central London during my lunch break. I’ve set myself the task of having lunch at a new spot every few days – I’d love to do everyday but you know with project deadline days that’s just not going to happen. I’ll photograph and um, rate the meal out of 5. Starting off with this Christmas special from Yo! Sushi; the Xmas tree sushi takeaway box. Nope, no turkey, no gravy, no mince pies but this is Japanese sushi-fied Christmas. See how after the cut.
