Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Kai Ziehl's Symmetrical Black & Whites

posted by on 15/12/2011

Hamburg-based photographer Kai Ziehl only shoots black and white images. Not just any old monotone colour scheme photographs, each one is breathtaking – some how he manages to capture the calmness and tranquillity in the scenes. All the symmetrical shapes and sharply defined features within the photographs is what strikes me the most, the clarity is immense and it works brilliantly. You can spot each and every detail, the symmetry and use of perspective is what makes his photographs so special. Peep the rest on the reverse.

Following this a full collection will be released, it’s not yet knon which season the full collection will debut but i’m guessing it will be released during the Autumn/Winter season. Throwback Thursday

posted by on 15/12/2011

*inserts DJB singing here* The song that I have selected for this week’s Throwback Thursday always leaves me whistling or humming the beat after i’ve heard it. It’s one of those tunes that gets stuck in your head for days but yet you don’t mind. I was inspired to select this song because of Project Alfie, I was thinking of what songs I think he should do a re take on and this was one of the songs I thought of. The song I have chosen is ‘Regulate’ by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg, R.I.P Nate.

A Closer Look At Burberry Prorsum 2012 Pre Fall Collection

posted by on 15/12/2011

I recently posted the Burberry Prorsum Pre Fall 2012 lookbook however that post failed to include the some of the womenswear collection and also didn’t have single pics for each look. I done some research (look at me trying to act like I done some intensive work lol) and found shots that showcased each look on it’s own rather than squeezing a couple on to the same pic like the previous post. Now we can all the clothes properly what do y’all think of the collection. Does it have you drooling?

Welcome To The Future

posted by on 15/12/2011

Sorry for the inconvenience, I know you missed our constant updates on the world of fashion, music and art. First of all, noticed any changes? If not clear your cache, voila. Welcome to Y&Y v 2.0. We started the site over 2 years ago and the journey from a blog started by 2 university kids about all things ‘cool’ to a website that offers daily inspiration for London’s flourishing creative scene. Although the old design was still loved by many for its simplicity and constantly complimented, we felt it was time for a change in order to grow. As always I’m sure a few readers will prefer the old design but change is good, give it a week and you’ll love this layout.

Y&Y meet Vanessa & Angela Simmons | Teaser

posted by on 14/12/2011

Last month, we sat down with Simmon’s sisters to get their take on style, growth, business and more. You may have guessed from the visuals above, DJB and I were drooling from behind the camera. I’m not going to deny it. Y&Y family members Tahirah and Eniola did the talking as we were completely lost for words. I was having Vybz Kartel moments in my head – alas let’s not talk further on this subject before my girlfriend flies back over from her holiday in Philippines to slap me one time. Here’s a little teaser of our interview – the fully transcribed version will be up at the end of the week.

Project Alfie – 'Dead Presidents'

posted by on 14/12/2011

Do you guys remember my Showcasing post on Project Alfie a few months ago? (see here). Well he has been hard at work writing and recording material for both an album but more immediately a mixtape. ‘Dead Presidents’ is the lead track from the Project Alfie Mixtape due for release December 27th and sees Alfie put his own stamp on the Jay-Z classic. He may not be a rapper but her still does the beat justice and brings a whole new vibe to the track that I previously wouldn’t have thought of. I am very excited for the impending mixtape and can safely say that as soon as it is released I will share it with you all.For now we have to settle for the one song but I guess it leaves us anticipating and expecting more. We’re Alfie, we’re ready!

Film Review | Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

posted by on 14/12/2011

‘Another one?’ That was the sceptical reaction of many when I told them that a new Mission: Impossible was coming out this year. After all, they’ve done three of them so the trilogy is complete, right? And yet, the famed spy series work better as standalone movies as opposed to continuations of the films that preceded them.  All three movies have had different directors, and all have put their own unique stamp on the series; Brian De Palma introduced us to super-agent Ethan Hunt in 1996, John Woo had Hunt stopping deadly viruses in 2000, and J.J. Abrams got Ethan hitched in 2006. With Ghost Protocol, the trend continues; this time it’s the turn of Brad Bird, director of animated delights such as The Incredibles and Ratatouille. In his first live-action feature, is he able to eclipse the high benchmark set by the previous Mission: Impossible movies? Hit the link for my spoiler-free, in-depth review to find out.

H&M 2012 Spring/Summer Collection Video Lookbook

posted by on 14/12/2011

Looks like we’ll be seeing more of the nautical look this upcoming Spring/Summer season if this H&M video lookbook is anything to go by. I love me some H&M just as much as the next person but if I’m totally honest this lookbook has left me feeling very flat. It’s left me so flat that I’m kinda lost for words, maybe it’s because it’s really really late as I’m writing this post but I just don’t feel inspired by the collection at all. I have a strong feeling that when the print lookbook comes to light it will change my opinion of the collection or at least I’m hoping it will. Peep the video and let me know whether I’m just being miserable or the collection is a pile of dog poop.
