Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey | Film Trailer

posted by on 21/12/2011

Here’s a fun fact for you: The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the highest grossing motion picture trilogy worldwide of all time at $2.91 billion. That is not a typo. 9 years on from The Return of the King – this bagged 11 Oscars, another record – director Peter Jackson returns to Middle Earth. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey takes place 60 years before The Fellowship of the Ring, and will follow the journey of Bilbo Baggins in his quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Many characters from the celebrated trilogy will be making a return, most notably Ian McKellen as the wise wizard Gandalf the Grey, and Cate Blanchett as Galandriel. New additions to the cast include Sherlock Holmes alumni Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug, and Martin Freeman as the titular character, Bilbo Baggins. Take a look at the new trailer below.

Yin Eats: Benugo's Andalucian

posted by on 20/12/2011

Full-frame. Canon 5D Mark II – haven’t actually taken it ‘out’ out yet for a proper photography trip, need to purchase a camera bag first. Apologies for the lack of Yin Eats in the past week, it’s been a hectic few days and the last thing to worry about was what I was going to eat for lunch so most days I ended up missing it or eating soup. Although this isn’t the first time I’ve been to Benugo, it’s the first time I’ve eaten there – usually I pass through there en-route to work to get an extra strong coffee. Yesterday, I had an early lunch meeting at 12 and no breakfast meant I needed to get something in ma belly – the Andalucian sandwich caught my attention at the till. It’s not the cheapest of sandwiches and certainly not the biggest. More on the reverse.

Photorealistic Drawings by Rick Fortson

posted by on 20/12/2011

Okay, I’m going to go refund my Canon 5D Mark II. This guy can draw more megapixels than my new camera could capture, mindblowing. Rick Fortson‘s celebrity portraiture are of the highest level. Each one of these drawings may take up to 17 hours, does that surprise you? Doesn’t shock me, just look at the level of detail. Never have I ever seen such flawless drawings in the past, it must be a gruelling task to create one of these with a just a pencil. In fact he goes by the name of Dr. Pencil, a self taught illustrator from the Mid-West, USA. This isn’t his daytime job, maybe he should reconsider and try make a living out of selling these masterpieces?! Just look at the drawing of the legendary Clint Eastwood, the way each in every wrinkle on his face has been captured perfectly. Mad. More on the reverse.

The Dark Knight Rises | Film Trailer

posted by on 20/12/2011

Even though the film is still a good 6 months away from release, anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s conclusion to his Batman trilogy, entitled The Dark Knight Rises, is already at a fever pitch. The marketing machine has been working hard recently; A couple of weeks ago we had an awesome theatrical poster released (see above), and the first six minutes have been shown in US IMAX theatres. Incidentally, I will finally be watching that prologue later this week when it hits the UK, so make sure you head to Yin & Yang for my thoughts. There have also been leaked bootleg copies of a new trailer that have made the rounds on the internet this past week. Today Warner Bros. officially released that trailer online, and you can watch it in all its HD glory below.

Apple iPhone 4S – Santa Advert

posted by on 19/12/2011

Not feeling festive yet? Christmas spirit not managed to take control? Yeah, not quite hit me. I’m not looking forward to the money that I have to spend this week on presents, I haven’t even started. Hoping to buy a few bits and bobs during my lunch breaks this week – eek, like fragrances and so on. I’ve actually asked everyone in my family what they want and they all respond with ‘nothing’. Including my 19 year old sister – what the hell is wrong with them! Apple have just released their Christmas commercial and it’s dope! it features Santa Claus playing around with the 4S’s Siri technology. He checks the weather, texts Mrs. Claus and browses through the naughty/nice list. Video on the reverse.

London's Burning | Channel 4

posted by on 19/12/2011

This Thursday (22nd) Channel 4 will start a brand new drama called London’s Burning. London’s Burning, set in Clapham Junction- one of the areas in which the riots affected; is an interpretation of a single night of rioting and looting that took place in August 2011. Starring Starring David Morrissey and Samantha Bondas senior police officers, we’ll be given insight into how residents, shopkeeers and business dealt with the violence. There is no doubt that the riots that took place earlier this year displayed violence that we as a generation had never witnessed; many of us have seen violence at it’s core but never on that scale so close to home. More info after the break.

The Dictator | Film Trailer

posted by on 19/12/2011

In case you haven’t heard about Sacha’s latest flick: The Dictator, watch the trailer after the break. Like all of his films, this one is also a parody but this time drawing on the very relevant political crisis we’re currently in. From the trailer it looks like the film will be a barrel of laughs, however, thinking about how deceiving the trailer for Bruno was- I’m wondering if the trailer below for The Dictator pretty much contains the films best bits! If so, then I say wait for it to come on DVD and rent it, save your money. The Dictator is set for a May 2012 release.

Mar Variation – Avril 14th (feat. Szjerdene) | Music Video

posted by on 19/12/2011

Beautiful. Souflul. Deep. Meaningful. Those are all words that you can use to describe this piece of art from Dutch singer Mar, who has been creating remarkable covers for his Variaton series takes on the classic Aphex Twin’s track ‘Avril 14th’. Most of you will probably recognise the sample from Kanye’s ‘Blame Game’ track off MBDTF. The visuals are something else, starts off so beautiful and happy, then all of a sudden things take a twist for the worse. You’ll see. Track also features UK‘s very own soul singer, Szjerdene. I can’t pronounce her name but she’s mighty talented.

Stuck? Frustrated? Let Uncle Niran help. No I kid.  I love how life always has ways of bringing us to a place where we need to make a fresh start. This week has kind of been that way for me with the new website launching. The whole journey was gruelling and my patience was definitely TESTED – glad I’ve made it through without giving up on the redesign. Working towards your goals and feel like you’re not going anywhere? Stick with it, hard work pays off. Results will start to appear. Don’t get distracted, focus. Right, new year’s resolutions time….eff that. I have new week resolutions. Why wait till the end of the year?
