Amerigo Gazaway, of Gummy Soul has created an 8-track, 33-minute mixtape combining music from Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti and Hip Hop kings, De La Soul. Acapella’s carefully chosen from 8 of De La Soul’s songs including some of my personal faves, “Stakes Is High”, “Ooh”, “Breakadawn” & “Feel Good” have been mixed with samples from the horn-heavy, funky Fela Kuti library. Fela Soul isn’t simply a remix mixtape of Fela Kuti and De La Soul, it’s almost a whole new era of music. I think that if you weren’t familiar with Fela or De La’s music – you’d be forgiven for thinking the tracks on Fela Soul are from a new type of Hip Hop band that mixes rapping with Afro Beat music. And that was Amerigo’s intention, to “bridge a gap between hip-hop and afrobeat, and serve an introduction for hip-hop fans and music fans alike who are unfamiliar with Fela Kuti or De La Soul’s music.” Listen to the free mixtape after the jump and tell me what you think!
Super models? Please, pretty girls that clearly need to be fed more. This is cute though, some of them have serious swagger whilst lip syncing one of Jay-Z‘s most iconic songs that pays tribute to New York. We need a song like that for LONDON but I don’t trust the rappers here to come up with something as powerful and positive. Kano released London Town a few years ago which was all about how rough the city is, meh. I trust Wretch32 do a good job. Anyway, pop on after the cut to witness some skinny but beautiful women lip sync Empire State of Mind around the city. Victoria’s Secret girls need to do a version. Now that I would have NO COMPLAINTS about. *drools*

Experience Zero Gravity is a short film created to share how these guys have explored the vast landscapes of France, Norway and Switzerland. The film features people walking atop cliffs and jumping from around 6000 feet- crazy!! I love this video because, the locations look amazing and these guys look like they are actually floating on air- slightly disturbing but mostly stunning. It must have been an incredible experience filming this, I certainly wouldn’t be flinging my self 6000 feet but it sure is great to watch! Watch the video after the break.

Rah. I’ve got to give it to this 19 year old Russian kid and his friends, they have balls of steel to do this. I wouldn’t dare attempt anything like this! In fact with my fear of heights, I probably wouldn’t be able to go anywhere near the edge of the building. Astonishingly Marat Dupri only bought a Canon camera 18 months ago and he immediately decided views from roof tops of houses before deciding to explore even greater heights. They use NO SAFETY HARNESSES – absolute madness so they’re actually taking the risk of plummeting down from those heights. One of the photographs was taken on top of one of Europe’s tallest buildings in Moscow which stands at 300m high. Crazy. Would you risk your life for art? Have a gander at the rest on the reverse.

Less than a day after unveiling visuals to “Thinking Bout Ya”, OFWGKTA crooner Frank Ocean has treated his rapidly growing avid fans with the video for “Swim Good”, one of the biggest cuts on his phenomenal free EP, nostagia:ULTRA. Not quite as abstract as yesterday’s release, the visuals to “Swim Good” are quite similar to what my mind conjures when I hear the cut. Of course, with director Nabil Elderkin (who shot “Novacane”) behind the camera, the video takes some interesting turns and features some brilliant camera work. Take a look now.
Last night I headed to the launch of Topman‘s new store at Europe‘s largest urban shopping centre in STRATFORD. Out of all the places in the world, Westfield has opened their biggest European complex in ghetto East London, astonishes me but this is where the Olympics are going to be so it’s going to pay off for them. Truly happy about the number of jobs it has created in the area, it can only do good for the community. Though as soon as I stepped foot into the mall, all I saw was ‘hood’ kids everywhere. Topman invited me down to their store launch along with a few other bloggers but I was fashionably late as I left the office an hour and a half late. I’m not going to lie, Topman are one of my favourite stores. They have something for you, whatever you style be – the variety of styles is immense. This season they’ve focused a lot on heritage products – chunky patterned jumpers, tweed-esque blazers with detailing, waistcoats and more. As always, you can always go for ever popular the denim shirt and chinos look – pretty sure 75% of dudes in London purchase their chinos here. Best fit by far. More on the reverse.

Yesterday Frank Ocean released the High 5 Collective directed visuals to his popular tune ‘Thinkin’ Bout Ya’. I must say that the video is totally unexpected and does not follow any sort of storyline or have any traits that one would assume it would have. Thinking outside of the box and not just in the club with scantly clad girls everywhere the video instead is refreshingly different, though does take a little while to adjust to upon first viewing as it is so different from what you would expect. I have been playing Mike Hough‘s version of this song in my car non stop for the past couple of weeks and can say I love it. If you haven’t heard the cover then listen to it here, otherwise click read on to see the video.
I’ve been researching innovative campaigns & ideas for the past few weeks, all types of different ground breaking ideas that have been successful. This successful mobile commerce campaign by Tesco HomePlus in South Korea was definitely one of the best; the company were struggling in the new terrirtory as they don’t have many physical stores in the country so people generally went to local stores which aren’t as cheap but easily accessible. So to counter this, they challenged the agency to come with a campaign that wins them the number one spot but doesn’t involve them opening new stores. Tough right? But they did it. How? Hop on after the cut.
