Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

COMPETITION: Win Tickets to WATCH THIS SPACE Festival at the National Theatre

posted by on 21/09/2011

So we’ve teamed up with our good friends over at American Express® for this new competition, one lucky reader + guest will be able to win an evening at Watch This Space Festival at the National Theatre‘s free summer festival of outdoor entertainment. Funny that we’re giving away tickets to a free festival right? You’re probably thinking what makes your tickets so special as suppose to just walking in there – well winners of our tickets will get to enjoy complimentary mezze platter at the Terrace Bar & Food before gathering at the American Express Preferred Seating Balcony to watch a unique programme of short British films from the BFI National Archive. They’ll projected outdoors onto the National Theatre Flytower which soars above the Thames. It’s an insight into London life from a bygone age – 1896 - 1945. DAMN! I need to go to this, you get to see Victorians travelling to work, the traffic chaos during Edwardian times and the smokey London Underground back in the 30s. I guess we shouldn’t complain too much about TFL.

Julian Bialowas – Inspirational Landscapes 365

posted by on 21/09/2011

I am in awe. You think my 365 was dope? Well check out Julian Bialowas‘ one. He’s mixed photography with typography and inspirational quotes – absolutely incredible. I’m jealous! maybe this is something I should start with inner city backgrounds as I’m not as lucky Julian who lives in Montreal which is surrounded by beautiful landscapes. All his quotes revolve around the theme of getting outside and enjoying natures beauty. I think I’m going to purchase a few of these to hang up in my room, in fact I’ll create my own with my 365. Have a gander at 15 of his collection on the reverse. He’s not quite finished yet, 20 days to go! Amazing project.

The North Face 2011 Autumn/Winter Lookbook

posted by on 21/09/2011

I’ve never owned a North Face item but have tried one on on many occasions. So many people tell me about how great they are at keeping out the cold during the wintery months but i’ve just not been inclined to part with my money in exchange for their goods. Though the garments in this 2011 Autumn/Winter lookbook look quite pleasing to the eye I still can’t see myself owning any of them. However I really do like the lookbook and the fact that the pictures incorporate some of the elements that contribute to and usually are associated with Winter. Take a look after the break.

Topman | Nothern Lights

posted by on 20/09/2011

The latest trend to hit Topman stores would be ‘Northern Lights’ we’re talking tweed jackets, grandpa jumpers, cable knits and corduroy. I’m liking the combination of tweed jackets and what Topman have called folkloric patterns on their knits; the trend is pretty much classic British style with a contemporary influence. I like the inclusion of denim shirts as part of the contemporary input and also pieces like the navy check patch quilt Jacket, blazers and ‘folkloric patterned’ snoods. After the break are a couple promo shots from the story however you can browse the full thing on the Topman online store.

Yak Films | All Battles All

posted by on 20/09/2011

Good Lord. If you don’t know about YAK films then I don’t know what you’ve been watching on YouTube. One of the most watched channels and I can definitely see why with their latest film covering the IBE BBOY championships in Holland where apparently they have battle where all the dancers battle against each other. The video production company do an excellent job of capturing the energy and movement of all the dancers, it’s intense. I honestly wanted to jump out of my seat and start body popping but you know, I only dance when Beyoncé asks me to support her on stage. Gassed. You have to watch the whole thing just for the 360 front flip off the FLOOR. Right time to forward flip my ass out of bed and get ready for work. Peace.

Big Hands Around Europe

posted by on 20/09/2011

So here’s the latest Banksy attempt but this time not in the form of 2D art but sculptures. Not just any sculptures, 20-foot tall white hands. They’ve started to emerge in all the major cities around the content and folks just don’t have a clue what/who/why it has been placed there. A pair of hands have showed up in our glorious city just by Covent Garden and what clues are left behind? None really, well other than a QR code which has been placed on them. They all have the same gesture but I’m not really sure what it represents. I’ll take a random guess though – unity? peace? or the number 69? Haha. Told you I was taking a random guess, maybe it creates a shape using shadows. All will be revealed soon apparently. Hop on after the cut for imagery and videos, see if you can decipher its message.

Colourful Life | Exhibition

posted by on 20/09/2011

We really do lack original art content on the site – with everything going on right now, just don’t have time to visit galleries but that will CHANGE come October. We’re definitely going to visit this exhibition featuring work from the collaboration between hugely popular illustrator/designer Ian Wright (No, not the former Arsenal striker) and Keaykolour paper. Above is an example of one of the works, pretty dope right? I love the combination of colours plus cut, torn, folded and sculpted paper that turn visceral attitudes into pleasant visual aesthetics. The exhibition starts on Thursday, more information on the reverse for those interested.

Dope Quote #17

posted by on 19/09/2011

What a quote, definitely agree with her there. You have to be willing to step up, daring to go out of your comfort zone to experience and learn new things. I fully recommend watching interviews and reading books by her. It can only do you good, she’s a teacher at heart. You’ll be able to get a plethora of life lessons from a renaissance woman. One day I can only dream of having such wisdom. New challenges, new week. I’m ready.
