Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

Bankside Gallery | Edward Hutchison: The Art of the Landscape Architect

posted by on 30/09/2011

Yesterday officially marked the end of my summer as I once again entered university doors to begin final year. Throughout the year we’ll be visiting London’s museums, exhibitions and galleries as a class, and I’ll be sure to post about them. Term doesn’t actually start until next week, but in the meantime our tutors recommended that we head to Bankside Gallery to check out the current exhibition by Edward Hutchison, ‘The Art of the Landscape Architect‘, which celebrates the importance and interdependence of fine art with applied design in the creation of contemporary landscape. Edward Hutchison’s watercolours and drawings form an essential part of his design process, exploring his responses to site conditions and seeking out a successful design solution in partnership with computer drawings.

Flashback Friday

posted by on 30/09/2011

As you know we changed hosts this week so we haven’t been able to post, so once again instead of Throwback Thursday we’re doing a Flashback Friday. This week’s tune marks the death of a hip-hop superstar who go’s by the name of Notorious B.I.G, Biggie created one of my favourite songs of all time and that would be ‘Hypnotised’. We’ve chosen ‘I’ll Be Missing You‘ as this weeks throwback tune, a classic, remixed to honour a legendary rapper. Enjoy

Topman General Store

posted by on 30/09/2011

Topman launched their latest side venture – a trendy concept store in the heart of London’s Shoreditch district. I’ve yet to visit it myself but the vibe of the store is pretty cool with the bare brick walls and general NYC-esque vibe to it with the furnishing. The space will act as a social hub and fashion destination for those in the local community. The selection of clothing in this initimate place looks very limited but at the same time I quite like how it has been displayed. They store features edited selection of key Topman pieces, seasonal project collaborations with a handful of branded items and limited edition artwork/books. Have a gander at the rest of the imagery on the reverse.

Versace for H&M in Vogue Russia

posted by on 27/09/2011

Deep breath. Wow. I’m impressed, I wasn’t expecting too much from this collection and rarely am I impressed by womenswear as it simply does not interest me. VOGUE Russia and a few other sources have given us a little peak into the upcoming collection. I’m definitely liking what I see so far; the bright colours, bold prints, leather studded pieces, bodycon dresses and more. However my favourite piece has to be one of the menswear pieces OBVIOUSLY. There haven’t been many leaks of the men‘s collection but the best one out of the lot has to be of the studded leather jacket. I’m sure I can work with it, the studded features are a nice accessory – now I wonder what the quality is like, we’ll see when it launches in November. Have a gander at both menswear and womenswear on the reverse.

I’m sure the makers of Instagram are over chuffed since their app has become hugely popular not only amongst us lot but among brands and other companies. Instagram has been the centre of various campaigns since its launch which have caused its number users to further sky-rocket. Well I just spotted on twitter through @LDN, that a group of photographers have come together to set up an exhibition that will showcase the some of the best photos taken and edited with the Instagram app. The exhibition that has been quite fittingly named ‘My World Shared’ will be held over 2 days at the East Gallery in Brick Lane, East London. More info after the break.

Marquese Scott – Dubstep Dancer

posted by on 27/09/2011

Talent is my thing, I just love discovering it. Admittedly I focus my energy in finding new musical talent but some talent is just undeniable what ever form it may come in. Yesterday I stumbled across this amazing video of Marquese Scott showcasing his supreme dancing skills and was completely bowled over. Mr Scott goes by the stage name of NONSTOP which is pretty appropriate in this case as I have watched this video non stop trying to spot whether camera tricks were incorporated into this video. My brain refuses to believe whole heartedly that he was able to move and contort his body in the way that he did. No other words can describe this other that Simple Dope!.

Dope Quote #18

posted by on 26/09/2011

I thought I’d write a few words on the subject of creativity as a lot of remarkably talented people waste their talents by ending up in dead end jobs with wretched routines. I know it’s tough right now to find that desirable job under current circumstances so I ask you all to practice your creativity outside of work. Start a new design piece/project/venture, a passion project. Maybe one day you’ll realise that’s what you enjoy and want to do as a career. Don’t ever let anyone or anything deprive you of your gifts and talents!
