Caribbean Cruising – Haiti & Jamaica | Royal Caribbean

It’s not often that you can claim to have woken up in a different country four days in a row but that’s exactly what happened when Adam and I took to the seas and embarked on our first full length cruise, courtesy of Royal Caribbean. A quick plane ride (please note the sarcasm as this plane […]

posted by on 23/03/2011

This month, artist Jonathan Darby brings his ‘Favela‘ Exhibition to the Signal Gallery. First time I saw his work I was immediately captured and an awesome exhibition it should prove to be looking at the previews. There isn’t much info available but the show is “inspired by the plight of the thousands of lost children in the slums of Brazil” hence the title “Favela” some of the proceedings of this will go to Children at Risk Foundation. The exhibition will end 2nd April so get on it!!! Check out some photos and a preview video below.

Raf Simons 2011 Fall/Winter Sneaker Collection

posted by on 23/03/2011

After quite a slow week for me in terms of writing posts I can officially announce that I am back on my writing grind (well at least for today). First up I have a sneak peak at the new Raf Simons 2011 Fall/Winter footwear collection. From what I can see the brand have stuck with their recognised silhouettes but have experimented with a range of new textures and materials. Viewing them on screen I personally think some of the styles look a little garish so I will reserve judgment until I see them up close. See the collection below. Source

Recycling Flashmob Test

posted by on 22/03/2011

This is absolutely amazing, genius idea. First of all, a flash mob is: A group of people who converge on a spot with little forewarning, perform some action (usually a protest), and disperse quickly. Think T-Mobile adverts in the past year with the people randomly dancing in Liverpool Street Station & Heathrow Airport. This Canadian flashmob organised by TVA focuses on the recycling issue. It starts off with a random dude forgetting an empty bottle on the floor after tying his laces and guess what happens? 10-15 people just walk by without even bothering to pick it up, most of them save it and chose to avoid the bottle. Till Justin Bieber came along…watch on reverse.

281. 55 Baker Street | LDN.365

posted by on 22/03/2011

So sleepy. Literally taken me half an hour just to find out the name of this oddly shaped building on Baker Street. In the end, I couldn’t even find the name! so just ended up using a title of a photograph. During that search I found a photograph taken by someone from inside the building >.< little annoying, the view was incredible. The glass contraception looks even doper from the inside! must go back.

Emmanuelle Tricoire – 'In Utero' Photography Exhibition

As a fan of black and white photography, I was excited to hear about forthcoming exhibition, ‘In Utero’. Curated by 20-year-old Zeyna Sy, Paris-based photographer Emmanuelle Tricoire presents a collection of stunning black and white portraits in Brick Lane’s EASTGALLERY at the end of this month. Shot entirely in analogue, the collection of images in Emmanuelle’s ‘In Utero’ will present “a series of deeply personal, intimate Black and White portraits focusing on the rare characteristics in ordinary people which make them inimitable and distinctive.”

Introducing… Shadez The Misfit

posted by on 22/03/2011

Shadez

In a generally interesting time for UK hip hop, up-and-coming rapper Shadez The Misfit is one of my top ‘Ones To Watch’ of the moment. Beyond just his music, it’s Shadez’ outlook which is most refreshing. Not content with just getting his name out there as a rapper, the twenty year old creative is heavily involved in the design aspect of his brand (designing much of his artwork himself), and also currently hosts the regular live night, G-Shock East Sessions.

The Weeknd – House of Balloons Mixtape

posted by on 21/03/2011

What better way to start off the week than with a mixtape from elusive Canadian duo The Weeknd. I’ve been a fan for a few months now, first posted about them here and I described them as perfect weekend music as it was so chilled out. Their R&B melodies are on point and this mixtape is a further demonstration of their skills, something totally different to anything out there at the moment. I wonder how many record labels have thrown out deals to these guys! they deserve one, hopefully they don’t sign to whack ass imprint labels like Bad Boy/Young Money. My favourite track on this mixtape is ‘The Morning‘, it’s a little different to the version that leaked a few months back. It’s more soothing despite the explicit lyrics. Hop on after the jump for a download link and tracklist. ENJOY.

Bespoken Fall/Winter Collection Video Lookbook

posted by on 21/03/2011

Yesterday I sent most of the day finally getting to grips with my Uni work but as always I had Y&Y in mind so as soon as I called it quits on the Uni work I went straight to work on the blog. During this time I stumbled across Bespoken, a relatively new brand. I came across a new video showcasing their upcoming Fall/Winter collection but it is the name of the company interested me so I decided to do a little more research. Read on to see the visuals for their Fall/Winter collection and for an about us piece on the brand itself.

Grenson 2011 Spring/Summer Collection

posted by on 21/03/2011

One of my biggest fails last year was when I decided to put back a pair of £50 Grenson shoes at a sample sale. I only later found out that pair of shoes retails for £150. What a bummer. The English footwear brand presents its collection for the Spring/Summer 2011 season. They’re definitely sticking to the contemporary styling whilst paying close attention the traditional elements of these silhouettes. It’s a little risky considering their previous collections but I’m certainly digging the pair pictured above. Have a gander at the rest on the reverse, most of these should be available here.
